We See You

October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

In October 1988, President Ronald Reagan Proclaimed October as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. “When a child loses his parent, they are called an orphan. When a spouse loses her or his partner, they are called a widow or widower. When parents lose their child, there isn’t a word to describe them. This month recognizes the loss so many parents experience across the United States and around the world. It is also meant to inform and provide resources for parents who have lost children due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, stillbirths, birth defects, SIDS, and other causes.”

You often hear, “I am 1 in 4.” Can we tell you right now that this statistic does not define you. Yes, it does let people become aware as it should because so many people across our world experience loss. We know that these numbers have a name. We see you and we serve a God who sees you too. We acknowledge the grief and pain you feel. We want the rest of this month to honor and remember you and your babies.

We know October is a special time to bring awareness, but here at the Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) we acknowledge this great loss all the time. Life is valuable at any stage whether lost in the womb or out of the womb. We have people in the community that donate items that we gift to our families that have experienced loss and our amazing team take time to just sit with you and acknowledge your pain, but also gift you with sweet gifts to honor and remember your precious child. When grieving parents can come together and be surrounded by love and support from their friends, families and ministries that care, it brings a small seed of healing.

We want to acknowledge you and the name of your precious child. This is a day to reflect on the loss yet embrace you with love. While our babies’ lives were so brief, they were also very meaningful. There are several ways we can do this together.

  1. Comment in this blog post the name of your precious child. We would love to honor them in a post collectively next week.

  2. Share this blog post, so we can collect, honor, and love those who have experienced loss.

  3. Light a candle today in memory of your sweet child, October 15th and share your picture with us by posting it in our comments of our original facebook post that had this link to this blog post. Together we can create a beautiful wave of light that travels around the world.

  4. We have also created some social posts that you are welcome to share in honor of your precious child on social media below. Click on the image and you can save to your phone and share.

It doesn’t matter at what stage your child passed. Your grief is real and your babies mattered.

Maybe you haven’t experienced loss, but you know some that has. There is a way you can honor them this month by giving a financial gift in their honor. This link will take you to a page on our website on how you can honor your loved one today: https://www.youmakeherbrave.com/memorial-donation
